FIRST ON-ROAD TESTS FOR SELF-DRIVING JAGUAR LAND ROVERS

Jaguar Land Rover is taking part in the UK’s first road tests for autonomous and connected vehicles. Real-world testing takes Jaguar Land Rover another step closer to bringing an intelligent vehicle to reality.

As part of the £20m UK Autodrive project, Jaguar Land Rover is testing a range of research technologies that will allow cars to talk to each other as well as roadside infrastructure, such as traffic lights on the roads of Coventry. The trials will explore how future connected and autonomous vehicles can replicate human behavior and reactions when driving.

Jaguar Land Rover is developing both fully and semi-autonomous vehicle technologies to offer customers a choice of an engaged or autonomous drive, while maintaining an enjoyable and safe driving experience. The company’s vision is to make the self-driving car viable in the widest range of real-life, on- and off-road driving environments and weather.

Cadillac: 115 Years of Innovation and Leadership Milestones

While the origins of the automotive industry are rooted in the development of the internal combustion engine in the 1860s and ‘70s, principally in France and Germany, the USA had joined in earnest by the early 1900s. Since Cadillac’s beginnings in 1902, the brand has forged a solid reputation for achieving automotive engineering firsts.

Establishing the spirit of innovation and daring that has sustained Cadillac for over a century, Model A, which was introduced during the 1903 New York Automobile show, had an overhead valve engine, rack and pinion steering and split-core fasteners which didn’t require lock washers.

The brand’s early years focused on the pursuit of refinement to enhance its leadership status. Cadillac’s tradition of industry firsts began in 1912 and the following highlights demonstrate that this was only the very start of over a century of bold design and ingenious technology.

The latest developments in the realms of vehicle head lights, cabin air quality and petrol engine technology will be showcased at the Innovation Lab while separately, motorsports enthusiasts will have a chance to enjoy the sensation of piloting a Formula E single seater racing car as part of a VR experience, highlighting Jaguar’s position as the first premium manufacturer to enter Formula E in 2016.

The two experiences will unfold in custom built settings which isolate the user from the general background noise and activity at the show, while the latest VR technology will transport them seemingly into another dimension. The net result is the kind of sensory experience which really is the next best thing to being there, particularly in the Formula E racing car, where show-goers will not only feel the whole-body vibrations and steering wheel feedback typical of the real experience, but they’ll have the impression of the airflow rushing past them thanks to built-in wind fans which create that effect.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge Marks the New Chapter of the Black Badge Series

Abu Dhabi Motors hosted a first look at the eagerly anticipated Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge at the Yas Marina Circuit. Attendees were granted a behind-the-scenes look of the new Dawn Black Badge with live demonstrations of its features.

The Dawn is given a new and darker sensual dimension through its suite of Black Badge engineering and design treatments.

Dawn Black Badge

The Black Badge story

Since it was launched in 2016, Black Badge has become the most commanding presence on the super-luxury landscape. Its authentic Bespoke engineering and design approach has answered the demands of those customers who have said “Build us a Rolls-Royce like no other”.

Black Badge is Rolls-Royce’s response to a small and select group of clients who have asked the marque for motor cars with specific, focused characteristics that reflect their different take on life, success and the luxury they consume. These people choose to define themselves differently from their wider social group; a subset within a subset.

For over a century such individuals, possessed of a dark and restless spirit, have been drawn to Rolls-Royce’s unique allure. Luminaries including Sir Malcolm Campbell, Howard Hughes and Muhammed Ali have all shared the marque’s founding philosophy; an uncompromising refusal to accept the status quo and a constant yearn to innovate, create and advance.

Their restless spirit was also shared by the marque’s co-founder; himself one of the great disrupters of his day. The Honourable C.S. Rolls was a man in a hurry. Not satisfied with fundamentally altering the road-car landscape, he sought more and pursued his appetite for advancement and adventure in the air; a passion that would ultimately lead to his untimely demise aged just 33.

It is this indomitable spirit that, since the launch of Black Badge, has captivated so many of today’s young owners, who are drawn to Rolls-Royce in the knowledge that no other luxury house is possessed of the vision and flexibility to meet their demands both in design and engineering terms. Indeed, Black Badge serves to amplify the inherent characteristics that have driven so many new, younger patrons of luxury to the marque.

In conceiving Black Badge versions of Wraith, Ghost and now Dawn, the marque’s Bespoke designers and engineers drew upon their instinctive understanding of the unique lives of these extraordinary men and women to create both design and engineering treatments that perfectly amplify the inherent values of these great Rolls-Royces.

Six Family-Focused Features Define GMC’s Crossovers

The men and women who designed, engineered, tested, and built the GMC’s 2018 crossovers, Acadia and all-new Terrain, aren’t only professional-grade engineers and designers – many of them are parents. By blending personal experience with feedback from customers, GMC were well set to equip the new Acadia and all-new Terrain with a variety of family-focused features.

As contemporary vehicles designed for families on-the-go, both the Acadia and all-new Terrain are re-imagined crossovers aimed at the heart of the mid-size and compact SUV segments respectively. Both models are designed to offer greater versatility and refinement, with more advanced safety technology and efficient powertrains.

Autonomous Cars to Be Allowed on California Roads Starting Next Year

The California Department of Motor Vehicles has just released its revised regulations governing the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles on public roads. After a 15-day public comment period, those rules will be submitted to the state government, which will then begin enforcing them sometime in the middle of 2018.

California is an obvious hotbed for autonomous vehicle testing, so changes made to the state’s rules governing these tests are followed closely by companies like Google and Uber that are developing fleets of self-driving cars for public use. There are currently 42 companies testing some 285 autonomous vehicles that are licensed with the DMV, officials said. Nearly 1,000 safety drivers are licensed to test those vehicles, but after the state’s rules go into effect, companies would be allowed to deploy cars without any human behind the wheel.

Autonomous Cars

The rules are a stark departure from the original proposal issued in 2015. Those draft regulations would have put the kibosh on autonomous vehicles without a human driver, such as Google’s steering wheel-less prototype. But then in May, the agency reversed itself, putting out a new proposal that would not only allow for the testing of self-driving cars without a human driver, but also regulate the manufacture and sale of fully autonomous vehicles.

DB11 Volante: The Latest Evolution of Aston Martin’s Iconic Convertible Sports GT

The most elegant of convertible Aston Martins begins a new chapter with the introduction of the eagerly-awaited DB11 Volante. Joining the DB11 Coupe, which was launched to wide acclaim last year, the new DB11 Volante sets new standards of performance, innovation, engineering and style to create the definitive open-top Sports GT.

DB11 Volante-01

Powered by a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo 510PS V8 engine, the DB11 Volante is built around the all-new bonded aluminium structure first seen in the DB11 Coupe. Lighter and more rigid than the model it replaces, the DB11 Volante has been engineered to deliver a much broader envelope of abilities. Greater levels of performance and handling accentuate the more sporting side of its character, while increased refinement, comfort and interior space ensure it remains a consummate grand tourer.

DB11 Volante-02

This depth and breadth of ability is made possible by the Volante’s 3-stage powertrain and chassis modes. Working in perfect harmony with the 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, electric power steering and limited-slip differential with dynamic torque vectoring, the driver is able to configure the car’s responses and tailor its behavior in a way that best suits the road, weather conditions or their mood.  Creature comforts such as a heated steering wheel encourage all-season open-air motoring, and rear seat ISOFIX attachment points – a first for a Volante model – bring added versatility.
