2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS 500: A place of refuge for visionaries

H

Do you know, guys, that there’s  an S in GLS? It represents the comfort of an S-Class. But there’s a G there, too – and I can guess this stands above all for: larger, tougher version of Mercedes-Benz‘s oft-lauded flagship sedan.

As a car enthusiast, I can see an array of abundant options that allow any Merc lover to personalize the new GLS further. From small details that just add a certain something, through to deluxe and comfortable appointments. Also, that face-lift, grafting a far more up to date facade across the SUV’s bluff frontage, is the most obvious bit.

Review: Volvo XC90 T8 R-Design Polestar

T

Over the past few years, I’ve test driven so many vehicles of all makes & categories. Yet, very few cars have surprised me. And to be honest, I never expected a 3-row, 7-seater large SUV from Volvo to surprise me & appeal to me the way the new XC90 did — given I’m too much into performance & sporty driving experience.

Ever since Volvo launched the completely new XC90, I have read & heard so much positive feedback about it that got me so eager to get behind its wheel. And here I am now telling you how it felt driving this car around the UAE for 3 days.

2017 Infiniti Q30: Taking a Unique Approach to Compact Luxury Segment

The Infiniti Q30 is but a rebadged Mercedes-Benz GLA. It’s an intriguing alternative to the premium German hatchback norm. The large stylized grille and sweeping headlights give the Q30 a distinctive look, while the swooping curves and various angles are far more distinctive than the straight-laced Audi A3.

2017 Infiniti Q30

Through the Q30, Infiniti has put a lot of work into differentiating its potato-shaped thing from Benz’s potato-shaped thing, meaning the narrative heard ’round the internet, that this is just a Mercedes knockoff, is not wholly accurate. The Q30 is its own odd animal, and therein lies some of its appeal.

Infiniti Q30

Redefining Luxury

Infiniti is taking a different approach to the increasingly crowded compact luxury segment with its 2017 Q30. The Japanese luxury brand’s new gateway model isn’t a traditional sedan ( Audi A3 ) or a sedan with a coupe profile (Mercedes-Benz CLA ) like the latest German entries to storm the marketplace.

2017 Toyota Highlander: What Does it Share With the Lexus LS?

We recently spent some time with the updated 2017 Highlander to discover the cool ways the crossover is different from the 2016 model—and also how it has remained the same.

As the designated driver for most road trips, I don’t spend much time in third-row seats. Still, when Toyota provided a 2017 Sienna beside a 2017 Highlander, I had to try both family-mobiles. No surprise here, the overwhelming winner for space in the third-row seats is the Sienna. I couldn’t believe how much space was back there, but my comfort level went from mildly uncomfortable to unbearable in the Highlander. That’s to be expected, though, as the Highlander is about 8 inches shorter than the Sienna, which has more interior space overall.

Here’s What Jaguar Got Right With the 2017 F-Pace SUV

Rumors of a Jaguar SUV first surfaced back in the early 1990s when the brand was owned by Ford, but the powers that be could never quite summon the courage to pull the trigger. A quarter century later, the Jaguar F-Pace proves that good things come to those who wait. This is an SUV that is true to the Jaguar brand promise: It looks sexy and is sensational to drive.

2017 JAGUAR F-PACE FIRST TEST

The F-Pace shares engines and transmissions with a host of JLR vehicles, from XE, XF and XJ Jaguars to Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Entry-level models are powered by JLR’s new home-brewed turbocharged 2.0-liter Ingenium four-cylinder diesel. The F-Pace models tested here—the $47,495 35t Premium, which is expected to be the volume seller in the U.S., and the top-of-the-range, fully loaded, $70,695 S First Edition—are respectively powered by 340-hp and 380-hp versions of JLR’s long-serving supercharged 3.0-liter V-6.

2017 Mazda CX-3: Simple Yet Sporty Refinement

For its second model year, the 2017 CX-3 benefits from just a few minor trim and equipment changes. There’s been some fancy-wheel democratization, as the mid-level Touring trim now receives the snazzy 18-inch wheels that were previously included with only the top Grand Touring model. Active safety technology became a bit more accessible, too, as Mazda dropped the cost of the i-Activsense package offered on the Grand Touring (adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automated emergency braking, and more); it now costs $1170, $750 less than before.

In a world of soft-road-only car-based crossovers, the Wrangler is a tough-as-nails off-road expert. Four-wheel drive is standard, as are a 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and a six-speed manual; a five-speed automatic is optional. Two- and four-door “Unlimited” models are offered, both with a choice of soft or hard convertible tops. The Rubicon gets front and rear locking differentials, a 4.0:1 low-gear ratio, and a disconnecting front anti-roll bar for wheel articulation and rock-crawling prowess.

2016 Honda Pilot Elite Is Your Mobile Family Command Center

Right off the bat, you can tell that this is a whole new brand of Pilot. What was once the boxy, macho alternative to the Toyota Highlander has gotten curvy, with a sleek, chrome front end and lines that remind us more of an Odyssey than anything else.

That’s not to say it’s bad-looking, of course, as this is one of the better looking Honda style languages in recent years, and it translates nicely to their largest offering. Handsome 20-inch alloys and tasteful chrome trim give this SUV some presence. Cover up the Honda badges, and it could easily be mistaken for an Acura. Perhaps the corporate ties between the two have pulled too close together…
